NX Filtration delivers its nanofiltration technology to SAPAL in Mexico
SAPAL (Sistema de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de Leon), a Mexican drinking and wastewater utility, selected NX Filtration, the global provider of breakthrough direct nanofiltration (dNF) technology for pure and affordable water, to supply its dNF membranes for a new wastewater recovery project. The project will be delivered through EcoAzur, distributor of NX Filtration’s products in Mexico.
SAPAL is the water utility for the Mexican city of Leon, supplying drinking water to a 1.6 million population throughout 1,339 city neighborhoods and 22 rural communities. SAPAL will deploy NX Filtrations dNF membranes to treat municipal wastewater in order to achieve a drinking water quality permeate that complies with local drinking water standards. This permeate will be reinjected in one of its key groundwater reservoirs that is used for drinking water production. The project, with a capacity of approximately 18,000 liters per hour, will contribute to SAPAL’s objectives of treating wastewater with state-of-the-art technology and enabling the reuse of treated water.
Jose de Jesus Manriquez Lopez at SAPAL comments: “We selected NX Filtration’s direct nanofiltration technology as this enables us to turn a wastewater stream into drinking water quality in one single step. This allows us to further improve the reuse of treated water. Together with the sustainability advantages of this technology, through its low energy use and avoidance of pre-treatment chemicals, this greatly contributes to our sustainability objectives.”
Alejandro Roman, Chief Commercial Officer at NX Filtration, comments: “We are very proud to supply our technology to this full-scale project in Mexico based on direct nanofiltration membranes. We offer unique separation characteristics, a small physical footprint due to our one-step process and strong sustainability benefits. At the last years AQUATECH Mexico tradeshow, where we participated together with our partner EcoAzur, we experienced great interest in our technology, both from the municipal drinking and wastewater sector as well as from industrial customers and we see this project as a very important milestone to further expand the presence of our technology in the Mexican market.”
Fernando Cortes, Chief Commercial Officer at EcoAzur comments: “We are pleased to be able to contribute to SAPAL’s objectives of further improving the reuse of treated wastewater. In 2021 we piloted extensively with NX Filtration’s direct nanofiltration membranes through which we demonstrated its benefits in terms of performance and sustainability. This also allowed us to optimize process conditions for SAPAL’s wastewater treatment project. ”
The project is being commissioned in June 2022.
