Industrial wastewater reuse with dNF for Thai Hoa rubber glove factory, Vietnam
Many water intensive industries around the world can benefit from recycling their waste water in order to secure supply of water needed for their core production process.
NX Filtration’s breakthrough dNF membrane technology efficiently removes polluting components from such a wastewater stream enabling a sustainable and robust process for wastewater reuse.
NX Filtration’s hollow-fiber direct nanofiltration (dNF) membranes demonstrate high retentions towards low molecular weight organic compounds, are operated as cross-flow and at low transmembrane pressures, resulting in low operational costs. Moreover, these membranes demonstrate low fouling behaviour, reducing the need for extensive pre-treatment and chemical usage. Given previous projects where NX Filtration and Vatech successfully used dNF, the choice for this specific technology was made. The system was commissioned November 2022.
The chosen dNF80 membranes, with an 800 Dalton cut-off point, demonstrated exceptional performance in achieving complete removal of suspended solids, turbidity, and a high level of chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal. These membranes exhibit high retentions towards low molecular weight organic compounds and are operated in a cross-flow configuration at low transmembrane pressures, resulting in reduced operational costs. Furthermore, the membranes show low fouling behavior, reducing the need for extensive pre-treatment and chemical usage. Given the successful implementation of dNF technology in previous projects undertaken by NX Filtration and Vatech, it was the natural choice for this specific application.
One of the key factors contributing to the decision to employ dNF hollow fiber nanofiltration technology was its low scaling behavior, even in the presence of relatively high levels of hardness. This unique characteristic ensures the long-term effectiveness and efficiency of the membrane system, further enhancing its cost-effectiveness.
After undergoing the direct nanofiltration process, the treated water is directed to the factory's raw water tank for reuse. Operating at high fluxes, the compact footprint of the dNF membrane system makes it an ideal solution for decentralized wastewater treatment and reuse technology. The superior performance of these membranes guarantees that the product water meets the stringent quality requirements of the site.

The results of the project have been remarkable, demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of NX Filtration's dNF membrane technology. The rubber glove factory has achieved an impressive 60% high-quality water reuse rate, significantly reducing its reliance on freshwater sources and alleviating the strain on local water resources.
Moreover, the system operates without the need for antiscalants or other chemical additives, ensuring a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution. With low operational costs, the dNF membrane system provides a cost-effective and reliable approach to wastewater treatment and reuse.
